October Diversity Calendar Highlights

GUAM AND SAIPAN FLOTILLA PARTNERSHIP FEATURE:

October is a month filled with vibrant celebrations and important awareness days that remind us of our diverse world and the values we uphold. As we honor Indigenous People’s Day, we reflect on the rich cultures and traditions of Native communities, while National Train Your Brain Day invites us to explore our curiosity and learn something new every day. October 16 brings National Boss’s Day, a time to recognize the leaders who guide us, and on the 24th, we celebrate United Nations Day, honoring global cooperation and peace. We also embrace the sweetness of National Candy Corn Day and the spooky excitement of Halloween later in the month. October is the perfect time to promote Global Diversity Awareness Month and support important causes such as Breast Cancer Awareness Month, National Disability Employment Awareness Month, and National Domestic Violence Awareness and Prevention Month. Join us for World Smile Day, where we spread joy and kindness, and don't forget to take part in the Guam Flotilla Social Diversity Gathering: Autumn Fest on October 8, 2024. Lastly, mark your calendars for the D204 Lions International October Fest Story Time Literacy Partnership at 10:00 a.m. on October 5, 2024, via Zoom!

LET US REMEMBER: 9/11

On September 11, we paid tribute to those who suffered from the 9/11 attacks on America. We will always remember those who lost their lives, those who sacrificed to help in any way they could, and the day that brought everyone from all walks of life, rich or poor, together as ONE! God Bless the families and friends of those we have lost, and the brave men and women who continue to fight for our freedom!

August Diversity Highlights

August is filled with special days and celebrations that remind us of the diversity and importance of different aspects of our lives. As we celebrate the US Coast Guard's Birthday and the first day of classes, we also honor Respect for Parents Day, showing appreciation for everything they do. Blogger Day and Farmworker Appreciation Day allow us to recognize those who share stories and work hard to bring food to our tables. Purple Heart Day honors the brave soldiers injured in service, while National Face Mask Day reminds us of the importance of health. International Youth Day celebrates the potential of young people, and World Breast Cancer Research Day highlights efforts to find a cure. World Humanitarian Day honors those who help others in need, and National Senior Citizens Day celebrates the wisdom of our elders. Slavery Remembrance Day helps us remember and learn from the past, while Women’s Equality Day marks the progress and struggles for women's rights. Individual Rights Day reminds us of the importance of our freedoms, and World Distance Learning Day highlights the power of education no matter where we are. Throughout National Heritage Week and National Wellness Month, we celebrate our diverse cultures and focus on our health. Family Fun Month and National Coconut Week encourage us to spend time with loved ones and enjoy delicious, healthy treats.  Remember to join us on August 3, 2024, as we kick off the beginning of the school year with the D204 Lions International Back-to-School Story Time Literacy Partnership!

2nd Annual World War II Seven Heroes of Malesso’ Dinner Meaningful

Si Yu’os Ma’Γ₯se’ to our families & friends who joined us for the 2nd Annual World War II Seven Heroes of Malesso’ Dinner on July 20, 2024.  Thank you also to Malesso’ Mayor Ernest Chargualaf for his Opening Remarks. We truly appreciate Governor Lou Leon Guerrero & Lieutenant Josh Tenorio for the presentation of the Proclamation of The World War II Seven Heroes of Malesso’ Remembrance Day.  Si Yu’os Ma’Γ₯se’ goes out to PΓ€le' Jason Granado for the special mass & blessing of the table.  We also thank the Valley of the Latte for the beautiful Bendision of prayers and chants as we remember our 7 Beloved Heroes who prevented a total massacre of the people of Malesso’.  I’m proud to say that my Tata, Juan Acfalle Naputi, and my 2 uncles (my Nana’s brothers), Mariano Nangauta & Jose Nangauta, are 3 of the 7 heroes. Malesso’ is the only village liberated by the villagers themselves and not by the U.S. Armed Forces.  Let us remember the following beloved heroes:  Jose S. Reyes, Mariano N. Nangauta, Jose N. Nangauta, Juan A. Naputi, Patricio S. Taijeron , Vicente M. Meno, and Nicolas A. Chargualaf.  May all our heroes Rest In Peace! If it weren’t for them, I would not be here today.  πŸ™πŸ˜˜  Enjoy the following snapshots, and we look forward to seeing you next year!

FESTPAC Unforgettable!

My time at the 13th Festival of Pacific Arts and Cultures (FESTPAC) in Hawaii as a member of the literary arts genre for the Guam Delegation fills me with immense pride and joy. πŸ‡¬πŸ‡Ί Being surrounded by such a vibrant celebration of culture and creativity is truly amazing!  We had the opportunity to share and showcase Guam's inspiring literary works, connect with fellow artists from across the Pacific, and engage in meaningful exchanges of stories and traditions.  Every moment spent with fellow delegates and artists is priceless, fostering a deeper appreciation for our shared Pacific identity.  Even though I twisted my ankle in the endless walking throughout the daily events, FESTPAC in Hawaii will always hold a special place in my heart. ❤️🌴 Enjoy the following snapshots!

Florida Adventures

Reflecting on our unforgettable trip to Florida in late May fills me with joy. What started out as a journey to the family conference turned into an incredible adventure. Faust and I had an amazing time exploring Gatorland, where we each had the thrilling opportunity to hold an alligator and even have a snake wrapped around our necks! The Kennedy Space Center amazed us with its fascinating exhibits, rockets, space journey presentations, and more! Michelle and I also had a delightful adventure at Chocolate Kingdom. She surprised me with a chocolate bar personalized with my name, adding sweetness to our journey. Faust's excitement was boundless as he experienced the magic of Disneyworld and the thrill of Universal Studios. Despite all the walking and the heat, every experience was priceless and memorable. Enjoy the following snapshots from the sunshine state!
