In Loving Memory of Lion Lois Taitano Gumataotao

With heavy hearts, we say adios to my beloved Mali, Lion Lois Taitano Gumataotao. You were more than a nina to my children – you were family, a guiding light, and a constant source of love and strength in our lives. Your presence and unwavering support will forever be cherished.

I am deeply grateful for the many years we shared together as ESL teachers/coordinators at LBJ Elementary School. Those moments were filled with purpose, laughter, and a shared passion for helping others – memories I will always hold close to my heart. You were not only a colleague but one of my best friends. Together, we conducted countless educational presentations, joined organizations, attended conferences, and volunteered in the community, always striving to make a difference. We proudly served alongside one another in organizations such as PIBBA, IRA (now ILA), the UOG-SOE Alumni Association, Ginen i Hila i Maga’taotao Siha Association, Guahan Isan Fama’guon Lions Club, Guam Interagency Coordinating Council, and so many more.

Mali, you touched so many lives, and your legacy of love and service will continue to live on through all of us who were blessed to know you. Hu guaiya hao, Mali. You are now in a better place, in heaven above.

Rest in peace. You will be dearly missed, but never forgotten. We love you always. πŸ™πŸ™πŸ™πŸ˜❤️

Lions Clubs International District 204 Celebrates CHamoru Month Through Stories and Community

Families join in the D204 Lions International CHamoru Saturday Story Time on
March 7, 2026 via Zoom and in person at the Hagatna Public Library

Biba Mes CHamoru! πŸ‡¬πŸ‡ΊπŸŒ΄ The D204 Lions Clubs CHamoru Saturday Story Time was a wonderful celebration of culture, literacy, and community. A heartfelt Si Yu’os Ma’Γ₯se’ goes out to our inspiring Featured Readers, Lion Francisca “Frances” Blanco and Tricia Tenorio, who generously shared their time and voices to bring stories to life for our young listeners and families. Through storytelling, they helped highlight the beauty of CHamoru culture, language, and island traditions during this special month of cultural pride. We also extend our gratitude to the families, children, and community members who joined us and helped make the event meaningful and memorable. We would also like to recognize the GuΓ₯han Isan Famagu'on Lions Club Leos, who, together with Lion Saina Bea, shared traditional amot (medicinal herbs) and explained their importance to our culture. A special Si Yu’os Ma’Γ₯se’ also goes out to Mariquita “Tita” Calvo Leon Guerrero for generously providing guguria treats for the storytime. Moments like these remind us that reading together strengthens our connections, nurtures a love of learning, and helps pass our cultural heritage on to the next generation. πŸ“šπŸŒ΄πŸ‡¬πŸ‡Ί

As we continue celebrating Mes CHamoru, let us keep the spirit of community alive.  Keep reading, continue sharing our island stories, practice safe boating, and enjoy a joyful and meaningful CHamoru Month! πŸ¦πŸ“šπŸ‡¬πŸ‡ΊπŸŒ΄πŸŒΊπŸŒŠπŸŽ‰

Answering the Call to Serve

This milestone represents more than just hours on a page—it reflects why I choose to volunteer. I give my time because supporting service members and their families matters deeply to me, and being part of a space that offers comfort, connection, and care is truly meaningful. Each hour has been an opportunity to show up, serve with purpose, and contribute to something larger than myself. Reaching 750 hours is a reminder that consistent, heartfelt service can make a real difference, and I’m grateful to be able to give back in this way.  Si Yu'os Ma'ase'!

Martin Luther King, Jr. Holiday

Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
Civil Rights Leader

No person in the entire history of African America has made as great an impact on the nation as did Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. – a preacher, civil rights advocate, moral leader, idealist and realist.  Since many young people had not yet been born during Dr. King’s lifetime, and may be too young to remember, it is our duty as a community of parents and educators to teach our children of the life and work of Dr. King.  May his legacy to ensure equality continue to live on.
