USO Volunteer Appreciation Party

It was great celebrating and networking with fellow USO volunteers!  I also received the President's Volunteer Service Award in recognition and appreciation for my commitment to strengthen our nation and communities through volunteer service.  Si Yu'os Ma'ase', and we will continue to remain, "The Force Behind the Forces."

Serving in the USO is one of the many volunteer activities I participate in as part of my effort to make a difference in our community and support those who serve our country.  I received the USO Indo-Pacific Coin and service award for 500 hours of service on March 24, 2023.  Si Yu'os Ma'ase'!

The Auxiliary Upper Level Officer Course (AULOC) C-School I attended in St. Louis, Missouri taught by Mark Wilson, BC-TLU and Dave Larkin, BA-TLU this week was instrumental.  I learned about servant leadership, being an agent of change, vision development, team building, functions of the Auxiliary Association, influencing others, investigations, conflict management, diversity, communications, emotional intelligence, transition management, and more. I also networked with awesome fellow USCG Auxiliary leaders who are sincerely passionate about making a difference in their respective communities.  Si Yu'os Ma'ase & enjoy the following snapshots!

USCG Auxiliary Certificates for DCDR and FC Service

It is a pleasure to have served as the USCG Auxiliary Division 2 Commander and Guam Flotilla Commander.  Carrying out missions to augment the USCG, making our waterways safe, saving lives one boater at a time, and essentially positively impacting our community, is what we do to make a difference!  I received the certificates below for my service, and I encourage others to do the same.  Semper Paratus!

Training provided staff and faculty with some of the best cultural practices to help students succeed

Cultural Sensitivity Training:  The participants and presenters at the recent Cultural Sensitivity Training seminar include Janelle Lujan, James Fathal, presenter/trainer Dr. James Perez Viernes, trainer Dr. Mary Therese Perez Hattori, Dr. Kathrine J. Gutierrez, Rhodora Uy, Evander Deguzman, Norma Guevarra, Venus L. Ituralde, Sallie S. Sablan, Dr. Matilda Naputi Rivera, Sallie L.T. McDonald, Pacita C. Aguon, Mylene B. Marasigan, Reina Guevarra Paco, Dr. William Jerrery, Cynthia Borja, Colar Simpson Warner, Dr. Christopher Garcia-Santos, Teresita L. Perez and Norman Analista. 

UOG’s Triton Advising Center hosted its first cultural sensitivity training for faculty and staff over three days through February 1, 2023.  Dr. Mary Therese Perez Hattori, an educator, author, public speaker, and native of Guam, who is the director of the Pacific Islands Development Program at the East-West Center in Hawaii; and Dr. James Viernes, also from Guam and a former UOG faculty member and alumnus, who is the deputy director of the same program at the East-West Center, provided the training.

The training, which was part of professional development for faculty and staff, provide some of the best cultural practices and approaches when advising students at UOGThe three-day training focused on bridging the gap between one’s own cultural practices and professional support services in light of the University’s multicultural student population as well as its multicultural staff.  The training is aimed at helping UOG staff to facilitate awareness of the importance of diverse communities to help students succeed even after they receive their degrees from the University.

USCGAUX Spring D14 2023 D-Train A Success!

The District 14 Spring 2023 D-TRAIN held March 3-5, 2023 in Hawaii was indeed memorable. There's no doubt that I found the training and fellowship to be meaningful.  I am also deeply honored to receive awards for the service I have done.  The highlight was when our Guam Flotilla was awarded for being the best Flotilla in District 14!  Way to go, Guam!  Bravo Zulu!
